National Capital Tour

Vets were involved in marshaling, volunteering, competing and spectating. Steve Crispin and Steve Blackburn rode against the big boys. Steve Blackburn was unable to finish the second stage, but Steve Crispin was in the middle of the bunch for the epic Corin stage only 9 minutes down, and somehow competed in a crit with 120 other riders at 47 average!

Many vets also competed in the support races but the results are not easy to come by. Brendan Byatt was doing well in B grade until riders crashed in front of him, bringing him down. We wish him a speedy recovery.

First Aiders Required

Sports Med are having problems rostering a first-aider for the race this Saturday at Breadalbane. Could any first-aid qualified club member who is available to be on standby please contact Ian Albrey to help us ensure we can go ahead with this event.

Keys Found - Federal Highway - Sunday 13/9/2015

A set of keys were found on the southbound shoulder of the Federal Highway on Sunday 13/9. Had an NRMA and Woolworths key tag on the ring. Handed in to Civic Police Station.

Corin Road closed due to essential works

Icon Water will be undertaking essential works to Corin Dam to enhance the asset, to ensure the integrity of the dam wall and upgrade the road crossing the dam. The works will commence from 7 October 2015 and will be completed by early 2016.

In order to safely deliver the works, the following areas are inaccessible and will close during the construction period:
• Corin Dam and Corin Road will be closed from Square Rock car park.
• The walking track between Corin Dam and Stockyard Spur will be closed.
• The toilet block and picnic facilities at Corin Dam will be closed.

Canberra Buy Cycle

CANBERRA BUYCYCLE is an initiative of the Rotary Club of Canberra. It is an exciting new bicycle market, where you can sell and buy pre-loved bicycles for a great price. CANBERRA BUYCYCLE also presents you with the opportunity to sell or donate bikes that are probably cluttering up your garage and to turn those unwanted bikes into cash or even upgrade to another. All you have to do is drop your bike(s) off on the Saturday and it will be up for sale on Sunday 18 October.

Register for Fitz's Challenge in 2015

Fitz's Challenge - Canberra’s long distance cycling event – will be held on Sunday 25 October 2015 to provide participants the chance to choose their challenge from one of five course distances while also raising much needed funds for The Kids’ Cancer Project.

The five course distances on offer in Fitz’s Challenge are:
• 50 km Tidbinbilla Challenge
• 105 km Tharwa Challenge
• 165 km Fitz's Classic
• 210 km Fitz's Epic
• 255 km Fitz's Extreme

Registrations for the event are now open.

 

RACING THIS WEEK:

Saturday, 26th September: Breadalbane Mini Tour Time Trial and Road Stage

Where: Breadalbane, Cullerin Rd, NSW
When:
  11:00 am: Time Trial start time
  13:30 pm: Road Race start time
Sign on: 15 mins before scheduled start time wearing your registered number.
Race Description:
20km age standard time trial competing for the M&H age standard trophy, followed by 28km out and back graded scratch.
TT will be based on the age standard and trophy awarded for the single event.
Then, the TT results will be used to give the first three place getters time bonus (1st 12 secs, 2nd 8 secs, 3rd 6 secs) for each grade.
Winner of the mini-tour for each grade will be the rider with the lowest time. Time trial bikes and full wind reduction paraphernalia (except transparent skin suits) welcomed.
Bring your own water for the second event. The club will be bringing enough for tea, washing up and a few bidons full.
