Message from the Club President

If riders are concerned about incidents during a race or about matters of race organisation, then the matter needs to be brought to the attention of the race referee or a member of the race committee in a timely and respectful manner.

All such reports will be adjudicated. In making reports riders should be very careful not to direct their feelings in a rude or offensive way to our volunteer officials. Our race rules have remedies for race incidents as well as the conduct of race participants. The best approach is to let the organisers know of any concern and then let the officials resolve the matter. Our aim is to promote friendly, competitive racing. We have been very effective in achieving that but require the ongoing cooperation of members to maintain this result.

Closure of Narrabundah Velodrome

The ACT government on Friday has decided to close the Narrabundah velodrome - http://www.economicdevelopment.act.gov.au/sport_and_recreation on the basis of engineering advice that the facility is ‘unsafe for both competition and training purposes,’

While the club doesn’t use the velodrome very often for events, there are Vets who train on the velodrome regularly especially on the lead up to championships - state, national, worlds and masters games and Olympics.

RACE REPORT:

Stromlo Time Trial – 27th April

In ideal autumn conditions (apart of course from a bit of a westerly blowing) 40 keen ITT riders took the chance to test themselves in a 20km ride against the clock in the "race of truth".  As usual a number of riders took the chance to get out their full ITT gear and bikes - with aero helmets, disk wheels and deep dish rims getting an airing.

In a turn up for the books, both Michael Fawke and Ross MacPherson from B grade set the 2 fastest times - with Michael blitzing the course in 30.37, a solid 42 seconds ahead of Ross with Les Ridsdale being the first A grader home 3 seconds behind Ross.

Owain Tilley won C grade by almost 2 minutes, a performance matched by Dale Teddy in D grade.

E grade was won by Ian Shaw who got up over Jeff Culnane (probably the club's most dedicated time trialer - has anyone else done as many TT kms as Jeff?)

While Terrence Merrigan convincingly won F grade, the biggest cheer in the F grade results went up when some obviously long standing rivalry was settled when Sue Frost pipped Mary Lovett for 3rd place by a whopping 2 seconds.

Jillian Wisbey triumphed in G grade by a narrow 18 seconds over Trish Phillips while the tandem of Lindy Hou and Rae Wells rode a creditable 39.03

Thanks to the marshals, Richard Gorrell, Paul Kennedy, Dave Clark, Liz Lowe, Rosemary Robinson and Bruce Griffin.  Of course, special thanks to Graham Hendrie for bringing out the van, setting up the signs on the road and doing the results.

Thanks to Malcolm Paterson for Race Refereeing.
