Stromlo Crits, 3 January 2012.

Another big field of 92 competitors turned out in hot weather for the start of a new year's racing program. No wins for the ladies this time, but Linda Banks (C), Pat Rooke (D), Liz Lowe (E), Jing Huang (F) and Angelika Mauch (G) kept the flag flying in their respective grades. Otherwise, the gents dominated proceedings and took most of the points. But in a new year there were some new faces in the winners' circle. Patrick Bouquiaux won G grade in his very first outing, Adam Carmody won B grade in only his second appearance, Charles Nicoll headed the C grade list in his fourth attempt, and Jim Davey finally found form to defeat the large D grade field for his first win. Graham Tanton (E), Scott Sparkman (A) and Robert Brooks (F) are no strangers to success, and enjoyed victories yet again.

Many thanks to race director Kim Malcolm, supported Henry Beaverstock, for so successfully managing the event.

Stromlo Twilight Series Graded Scratch, Saturday 7 January 2012.

50 competitors turned out on another warm evening to race the first of the twilight road races out and back on Uriarra Road. The balmy air also brought out at least one of the Saturday Uriarra Road Ragers (whose members suffer the delusions-of-grandeur-behind-the-wheel syndrome or the infantile territorial disorder, or both). He did his best to disrupt the event, but our folk were alert and sensible enough to keep themselves safe in spite of the idiot's attempt to cause harm and upset. No ragers in our mob, but some pretty earnest competition saw some very experienced old hands in command of the road yet again. Ian Downing won A grade from Paul Scherl and Paul Welsh. Brendan Byatt (a frequent winner) defeated Andrew Remely (often second) in a close B grade finish. Peter Merrick continued in his recent good form to win C grade ahead of the ever present Bryan Holloway and Brad Tuohy. Alex O'Shea is now fit enough to outpace the old hands of D grade, but had to give way in a close finish to a new talent, in the form of Andrew Chamberlain, having is very first Vets' race. In E, experience was definitely a factor for James Cruden who finished ahead of Bob Kent and Ian Morton. Dennis Puniard and Graham Hendrie shared a friendly F grade duel, but Bruce Jones had the new chum, Polly Templeton, snapping at his heels all the way to the finish. Polly was also the best placed lady of the day, ahead of Angelika Mauch and Mayumi Takeuchi.

Our many thanks are due to race director Ross Macpherson, and his assistants, Lee Sheather, Aaron Sedgmen, Phill Coulton and Henry Beaverstock yet again.

PS: Police inquiries into Saturdays incident/s have begun.
