Hello Vets, welcome to another issue of The Bleat. In this week’s issue;
· Rain, Rain go away... No racing at all last week due to the incessant downpours. Hopefully the weather will clear in the coming week and we can all get some riding in.
· URGENT - Race Director needed for Gunning Two Day.

URGENT, Race Director needed for the Gunning Two Day
The Club is in need of a volunteer to be Race Director for the Gunning Two Day event on 31st March/1st April.
The Race Director will not only have the honour of running one of the premier events in the ACT Veterans Calendar, they will also receive next year’s club registration for free.
So let me know immediately if you are interested so that we can fill this important post.
RACING THIS WEEK:
Tuesday, 6th March: Stromlo Crits from 5:45pm.
Where: Stromlo Forest Park Circuit.
Sign on: 15 mins before your grade's scheduled start time wearing your registered number.
When: (approximate start and race times): G at 5:45 for 15 min+2; EF at 6:05 for 20 min+2; AB at 6:30 for 30min+2; CD at 7:05 for 25 min+2. NOTE that race times will be reduced in the coming weeks as daylight fades earlier. If the weather is overcast, it is a good idea to time your arrival at the track a little earlier in case start times are brought slightly forward to allow for this.

Where: Queanbeyan Park
When: Warm up from 5:30 pm; first race at 6:00 pm.
Event: Scratch races, two lap handicap, derny races and Italian pursuits. Road and track bikes welcome.

Saturday, 11th March: Uriarra Time Trial
Where: Uriarra Homestead
Time: 8:00am
Sign-on: At least 15 minutes before scheduled race time. Numbers must be worn on the bottom left of your jersey.
Race Description: Uriarra homestead – Short turn – Top of crossing –Mt McDonald turn – Short turn – Top of crossing – Finish (Distance 33.5km)

ACT Veterans Member Profile
Our next member profile welcomes new club member, Brendan Byatt;
How long have you been a member of ACT Vets?
Not long. I joined the club in October 2011 and it’s been great meeting so many new people with similar interests.
What is your favourite course in the ACT Vets racing calendar and why?
I like most of them so far and bit hard to pick a favourite yet, but I not so keen on the criterium track though. It is gets a bit boring going around and around….
What Grade did you start in with the Vets?
C Grade.
How long have you been cycling?
First ever competitive race was October 2011, but I have been doing a few of the good local bunch rides plus the annual Amy Gillett rides for past 18 months.
What got you interested in cycling?
Needed something to replace playing basketball.
What was your most memorable ride?
Great Ocean Road Amy Gillett Gran Fondo 2011. After that I made up my mind to join a cycling club and try and be competitive.
What is/was your favourite bike?
My current bike is a Trek Madone and its great, prior bikes just don’t compare really.
Where do you work?
Iqon, a Construction Company in the ACT.
How do you find the time to train?
Like most cyclists in the early mornings. Pending weather I’m on the bike all year round most days by 5.30am
Do you have a special training regime?
No, just to ride as hard as I can every time!
What does your family think of your cycling?
Very supportive as it is something I can do without interfering with the family’s activities.
An interesting fact about yourself;
I don’t give in easily.
