Criterium Cancellation: 8th January

Stromlo Forest Park has been closed due to the fireban that is in place in the ACT. Tomorrow night’s Criterium Race has been cancelled.

Check your Criterium Handicaps:

James “the Handicapper” Jordan (aka “he who must not be named”) has taken out his magic wand and cast a re-grading spell across the Criterium grades.

Go to the RMS and check your grade before next week’s race. Under the rider name drop-down, click once to populate the list, and then click again once it has finished loading.

Select your name from the list and your grades will be displayed.

If you have any questions or difficulties with registration please contact: membership@actvets.cc

Are you receiving this twice?

We are in the process of switching over to use the new IMG registration system as the mailing list for The Bleat. The Email address that you provide in the on-line registration will be the address for future updates.

RACE REPORTS:

Lookout Hill– 6th January

On a warm but pleasant morning we had 44 riders turn up for the Lookout Hill graded road race. The course was altered slightly to comprise of Lookout Hill to Tharwa turning at the shop then back past Lookout Hill to Point Hut and then return to Lookout Hill twice with the finish basically at the top of the hill. The distance was 39kms for all grades.

A grade was a small group that stayed together to the end with David Rae taking the line honours and Brendan Byatt and Reinhard Mauch filling the minor placing’s. In B grade it was a different story with the group breaking up early and leaving just three riders left at the end to contest the places. Howard Galloway clearly took the win with a good margin, he was followed by Adam Ballantyne and Kevin Wells for second and third places. C grade was a closely contested race with Jim Davey just edging out Alex O’Shea for the win while third was Simon Milnes.

The D grade race was effectively a group finish with Robert Wilson prevailing in the end to take the win from Kevin Hennessy and Ross Robinson. There was no E grade, however, the F grade group the largest (12 riders) + a tandem was a race that split into a number of groups. The tandem (riders Elton Ivers and John Barlow) took the line honours while Rosemary Robinson who managed to stay in touch with the tandem was first in F grade and then there was a large gap back to Ian Shaw and Mary Lovett who filled the minor places. The G grade race was a close contest between Polly Templeton and Lindsay Graham with Polly taking the win. Angelika Mauch with a solid ride was third.

Many thanks to the marshals, Henry Beaverstock, Owain Tilley, Brad White, Charles Nicholl, Chris Nolan and Bradley Sellwood.

Also a big thank you to the race referee, Peter Klein and our first aid officer known as Brad.

Track Report – 29th November

On 20 December was the Christmas Track Wheel Race. Unfortunately only 12 riders competed. The winner of the Roadies race was Kelvin Alley followed by Rosemary Robinson. In the Trackies race Jim Davey won by a tyre width over Ray Gorrell followed by Allan Bonjter.

Track racing commences for 2013 this Thursday 10 January – the events will be – 12 Lap Scratch, Sprint Derby, Italian Pursuit and a Mystery Race. Hope to see you there.
