RACE REPORTS:
Old Federal Highway Handicap – 10th March
Well it’s been a while since we’ve done the Tulip Farm leg at the Old Federal Highway course and that long hill certainly took its toll. There were 14 DNFs though a few of them were flat tyres.
The grades set off at 9:00am with G Grade holding a 42 minute handicap. In fact G Grade had finished the Shingle Hill Way leg before A Grade had even rolled off the start line.
By the end of the first leg, all the grades were still in their starting order though a few of the grades had broken up. The top grades were working hard together and looked as though they might reel in the leaders.
After the first Tulip Farm leg, Jing Huang and Bob Egan were doggedly holding onto the lead while behind them F Grade had completely broken up, E and D Grades still held groups of 5 working together. A Grade had overtaken B Grade and was working together making up time on the leaders.
In the end, Jing and Bob held onto their lead, actually completing the second Tulip Farm leg 2 minutes quicker than the first leg. Jing put in a big sprint at the finish to pull ahead of Bob.
The A Grade bunch came in 4 minutes later with Graeme Allbon (who also posted the quickest time of the day) sprinting to take third place.
Overall it was a good day for G Grade with 4 riders in the top ten.
Many thanks to the volunteers who helped marshal, Ben Davis at the Shingle Hill Way turn, Andy Boyd at the Tulip Farm Turn, Brandie O’Connor at the Intersection, David Dickson at the Finish chute, Jon Barnes in the Lead Car and Rob Diamond in the Trail Car. And as always, the ever reliable Henry Beaverstock with the organisation with support from James Meredith.
