Track Season Start
QUEANBEYAN TRACK PRACTICE SESSION
THURSDAY 10 OCTOBER 6.00 PM
ALL WELCOME - DONT MISS IT !!
The 2013-14 Track Racing season will kick off with a practice session on Thursday 10 October at the Queanbeyan track. There will be no racing. All interested riders are invited - particularly new riders and track novices. It is a great opportunity to give track a try!
Note:
+ Queanbeyan track is located in the park in Central Queanbeyan (behind the police station);
+ Track & road bikes acceptable;
+ New riders can get practical advice on gearing, bunch riding & track etiquette;
+ Interested riders can try out a track bike;
+ Experienced riders can tune up the machinery & motor;
+ All riders can express their preference for events & races;
+ The practice session will be around 1hr 30 mins;
+ There is no formal structure to the practice. You can do your own thing.
+ We hope all riders will later adjourn to a selected Cafe to discuss the coming track season.
A few basics on track etiquette for the practice session:
+ If you are cruising around the track, ride high (next to the rail);
+ Tempo riders use the centre of the track;
+ Use the inner track if you are circulating fast or sprinting;
+ Hold your line - don't make any sudden changes of speed or position;
+ Be very careful if you are crossing or moving on / off the track;
+ Start from the fence and be aware of riders approaching;
+ Be careful braking on road bikes. Remember the track bike on your arse has no brakes!
Regular track racing will start on Thursday 17 October.
Criterium Master Class
The October Crit Masterclass now almost full and it's time to get ready for the big one. The November Masterclass will cover Race Strategy and Tactics. This one is a great session and loads of fun as it includes a whole stack of mini 2-3 lap races. Details for the session are below or available through the website.
NOTE: I expect this one to fill up relatively quickly and I would like to give priority to my riders if possible. Also remember that your eligible for a 20% discount on these sessions as a coached rider of Argonaut Cycle Coaching.
Are you looking to improve your race results? Do you want to have a better understanding of how races 'work'?
Session information
The Race Tactics Masterclass session is designed as a combined skills and race simulation session and is suitable for any one who wants to improve their race results through a better understanding of race tactics.
The session will cover a broad range of tactics and race scenarios, including:
How to read a race
How to launch a successful attack
Blocking
Bunch positioning and 'getting out'
Tactics for sprinters
Making the most of attacks and breakaway opportunities
How to develop your own personal 'race winning strategy'
The session will include a large number of mini races to provide the opportunity to learn and practise a variety of race tactics. This is a great way to learn but it's also great fun, especially when done with your friends and team mates so get them along as well so you can practise together.
When: Saturday 2nd November 2013.
Time: 10:00am and finishing at 12:00pm.
Location: Stromlo Forest Park Criterium Circuit
The session is open to all CA affiliated club members and Australian Vets Cycling club members. Junior riders U15 and above are welcome but they should have bunch riding experience as the session will include a large number of mini-race simulations.
