Race Officials Required

September marks the time for some of the club's most prestigious races: the club road championships and the Iron Mike Handicap. Unfortunately, we don't have the race directors and officials to run these races at this stage. If these races aren't your cup of tea, the race committee would dearly love to hear from ATCs and marshals who'd like to help out. These events will also require putting out the extra signs required for an ACT event.

First Aiders Required

With the approaching Footy Finals, Sports Med might have problems rostering first-aiders for our races. Could any first-aid qualified club member who is available to be on standby please contact Ian Albrey to help us ensure we can keep the race schedule over this period.

Register for Fitz's Challenge in 2015

Fitz's Challenge - Canberra’s long distance cycling event – will be held on Sunday 25 October 2015 to provide participants the chance to choose their challenge from one of five course distances while also raising much needed funds for The Kids’ Cancer Project.

The five course distances on offer in Fitz’s Challenge are:

• 50 km Tidbinbilla Challenge

• 105 km Tharwa Challenge

• 165 km Fitz's Classic

• 210 km Fitz's Epic

• 255 km Fitz's Extreme

Registrations for the event are now open.

The Alfred 6 Hour - Charity Mountain Bike Race

This event is being conducted by the Alpine Cycling Club with 100% of profits being donated to The Alfred Hospital in support of Emergency and Trauma Care.

National Capital Tour

The National Capital Tour is now in its third year and is unfolding to become Canberra's premier road racing event. This year's event has expanded to include both local and state club racers into the Graded event categories allowing riders to mingle with Australia's' elite NRS riders. The Graded events offer four categories A, B, C, D across 3 stages; Hill top finish at Corin Forest, Sunday morning road race finishing with Sunday afternoon Criterium.

RACE REPORT:

Corin Rd - Time Trial – 22nd August

While the TT format seems to have dissuaded many members, the 25 hardy riders all reported having a good ride. This was the first time we have held a race on this track and most riders apparently liked it although it was more like a hill climb than the usual undulating TT track.

Apologies to those who read the race description - the course approval, while not marked in kilometres, did seem to indicate that bit of road where we put the finish line so you covered about 12.5 kms rather than the 7 stated.

The road appeared a little busier than we are used to but by all reports the car drivers were courteous and importantly patient. The weather was nearly perfect although the blustery wind did have is effects at various points up the hills.

The grades were not well represented - A grade having the largest number with 5 riders. The TT format doesn't lend itself to much of a report so check the results sheet for your times.
