BE PART OF THE 2016 NATIONAL CAPITAL TOUR

Capital Cycling is conducting the 2016 National Capital Tour – a road racing event that will attract the best domestic riders in Australia and New Zealand to the ACT on the 16-18 September. All Cycling ACT members will recognise the importance of conducting a successful premier event such as this in the ACT.

The National Capital Tour 2016 provides opportunity for all competitive cyclists to race on the same circuit as the NRS riders and brings a premier “Open” event once again to the ACT. It is anticipated that this tour will re-establish Canberra as the home for quality graded racing.

Cycling ACT is a foundation member of Capital Cycling and the success of this event is important for the whole cycling community and the continuity of such events into the future. So – we would love you to enter as a competitor http://nationalcapitaltour.com.au/about/open-racing/ however if you are unable to do so, we would love you and any of your friends to assist us as a volunteer on any of the days.

Volunteers are essential to the success of the National Capital Tour and your involvement during the weekend would be highly valuable. With a range of volunteer duties that includes lead drivers, radio operators, road marshal duties and many others we will have a task for you!

This week's race at Yass

Several weeks ago at the Dog Trap Rd Handicap event we received a complaint via Yass Council of riders riding 4 abreast during the race. Obviously we don’t want to get on the wrong side of the Council as it may affect our ability to conduct future races within their area. It is critical that this weekend we abide to not only the road rules (As I’m sure every club member does), but also common sense.

We do not have these roads for our exclusive use during races and as such should be conscious of other traffic on these roads for our own safety and those around us. I’m sure that Yass Council may even pay us a visit this weekend to ensure we are conducting the racing under safe conditions. When riding in echelon formation or in a peloton it is the responsibility of every rider to call out to other riders of potential risks and this includes cars (both oncoming and passing) and the formation in which we are riding.

RACING THIS WEEK:

Saturday, 3rd September: Graded Scratch - Yass

Where: Cooks Hill Rd, Yass

When: 1:30 pm.

Sign on: 15 mins before scheduled start time wearing your registered number.

Race Description:

For the Yass event this weekend we need people to volunteer for the following positions:

- 2 x turn marshals,
